LAN Network Installation and Configuration

LAN (Local Area Network) is a type of tissue that connects two or more workstations in a local network that is not too broad, for example, in one room or one building. Broadly speaking there are two types of LAN networks, namely:
1. Peer to Peer
2. Client-Server

Peer-to-peer is a type of network that connects several workstations where each workstation has the same position. in the sense that each of the workstations to share resources. Meanwhile, network Client-Server, can be seen from its name, where there is a workstation that serves as a server that provides the resources given to each client.


1. LAN network installation
Some things needful in this installation such as:
- UTP Cable
- RJ-45
- Crimping Tan
- Lan Tester (optional)
- LAN Card (NIC) for the mainboard is not properly installed onboard lan card (network devices and grapich yet included / external).

After it needs is ready, then we can start building a network that we need. It should be noted that each type of network will use a different cable types.

[+] Client-server networks use a cable type Straight

Immediately, we started making the first cable network is a peer-to-peer, in this network we use a Crossover type cable. Here is an arrangement of colors on the type of crossover cable.

WO - O - WG - Bl - WBl - G - WBr -Br


As for the second network is a network Client-Srver we use a Straight cable, which is where the arrangement of the color of the cord as brikut:

G >Green
Bl >Blue
O >Orange
Br >Brown
W >White

After we finished up the cable colors according to what we need, we continue to connect with RJ-45 connectors. Flatten the ends of the eight wires which we will enter into the connector. Which need to be considered when inserting the wires into the connector positions konekstor facing up or down, not to reverse its position on the connector one end and at the other end.

After that lock connectors and cables by using crimping pliers. If necessary you can test your cable with LAN Tester. Make sure any lights that live on the same LAN tester.

2. LAN network configuration
I will try to give the steps shorter in doing this the network configuration. Miraculous things that need diprhatikan also so that the conflict does not occur in the network that we make are:

 
a. Computer Name and Workgroup

To set the name and WorkGorup, we can melakukanx with brikut sperti steps:
Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Computer name entered in the tabulation.



Click the Change button. enter the computer name and workgroup and press OK.


b.IP Address
To set the IP address we can do it with steps like the following:
Click Start> Control Panel> Netwotk and Internet Connection> Network Connection.
Select the NIC that is currently active. right click and select Properties.





On the General tab in the Connection box choose Internet Connection (TCP / IP) and click properties (you can also double-click).



Select Use the Following IP Address.



Fill in the address that will be used, for example:
IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (ip of media that we use as a gateway mislnya ADSL modem) 

Leave it vacant for the DNS.

click OK.

Now try you are browsing with a web browser or ping http://www.google.com through the command prompt. If still not connected to the Internet, try to notice or make sure the cables are plugged in the modem configuration is correct, aka the status is UP.
